Looking for a peaceful spot on campus? A fresh breeze, warm lighting, and a cool aura will help you decompress when you need a quiet moment to yourself. Make sure to check out these five underrated spots on Sequoyah’s high school campus that you may not have heard of.
Hidden Seat in the Trees
Hidden between Ross Chapel and the Church’s Sanctuary lies a large field of grass and a forest of trees. Look within the forest and a bench will reveal itself. This bench can seat up to three people if squished together. There is sufficient shade, but also enough sunlight to warm anyone up on a cool day.
Gamble House Backyard
After school hours, take a stroll to the Gamble house’s backyard and admire the nature around you. A secret passage next to the meditation garden leads you to this green space. The outdoor area is full of wildlife and an array of plants. There are many benches located on the property, along with shady areas to relax in. You can lie on the grass or take a seat on a bench. It’s an adventure in itself. Seniors are allowed to visit during lunch (and juniors are allowed to visit during lunch on Fridays) as long as they sign out in the main office.
Picnic Table
Walk into Room 6 and you will find yourself a set of doors to the far left. Open them up to find a picnic table. This spot is one of the shadiest areas on the campus. Much sunlight does not reach the table, making it a great spot on a hot day!
Paint splattered Wooden Benches
An artsy spot with many seats, these paint-splattered benches are perfect for sparking your creativity. Set up just outside Room 7, the benches offer plenty of room to hang out with friends; as an added bonus, they are spaced well enough to help you maintain social distance.
Bench next to the Church
For several reasons, this bench is ideal for many people. If you are waiting for your ride home after school, this bench is perfect, as there is a view of the ride line-up. In addition, the bench is somewhat isolated from the rest of the school. It is the perfect spot to read without too much of a distraction, but also a great spot to hang out. There is a larger bench nearby if you would like to hang out with friends.
Even if you do not end up going to these spots often, use this article as a scavenger hunt to explore the campus. Just remember to be mindful of those who are occupying these spaces.
