Daniel Yu is one of the newest faculty members of the Sequoyah community, where he teaches the sophomore class Humanities 2. Yu was born here in Southern California and grew up with Mandarin Chinese as his first language. Yu moved to Atlanta, Georgia for graduate school, and then to Maryland, where he became a Visiting Assistant Professor at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, right on the coast of the Chesapeake Bay. Eventually, he and his wife Elly moved back to Southern California, where she found a job as an investigative reporter at KPCC (Southern California Public Radio).
When Yu was looking for jobs in the area, he heard about Sequoyah and fell in love with it. Yu said, “I found out about this really cool high school, this new high school doing very interesting and innovative things and I thought it was the perfect fit for me.” He went on to say, “My hunch was correct.” Ever since he started, he has been working hard educating his students in the way of words. He is also the leader of the Poetry Z block!
Yu has loved basketball all his life and is a proud Lakers fan. He enjoys spending his free time reading and writing poetry and novels. He also has a great deal of fun playing Civilization 5 on his computer and has loved the new game Elden Ring.
Daniel is a great person who would love to talk to you! So if you see him around campus, be sure to say hello!
Such a well-structured and engaging article. Thank you!
This is one of the best explanations I’ve come across. Thanks!
